After the destruction of the Encarnación convent in 1812 the center of Seville was created, which would be the food market known by the same name. In 1973, given its unfortunate condition, it was demolished and the merchants were placed in provisional facilities, which would become almost permanent for almost 40 years.

In the first months of 2011, the completion of a construction process for the new space was witnessed. After almost forty years, the return of the “plaza de abastos” that started in the 70s has been completed, in the place it occupied. Jose Manuel Ramirez has been working as a professional photographer for thirty years. Traveling around the world and living in different countries such as USA, Germany, Portugal and Japan, during four years he resided in China.
